How could digital identity wallets make it easier for international employees to settle into Finland? Authbound explored this recently through a practical demo presented as part of Findynet’s work-based immigration pilot.

On 23 September 2026, results of a work-based immigration pilot were presented during an event hosted by Sitra. The initiative brought together public-sector organisations and technology partners to explore how digital solutions could simplify the journey for people moving to Finland for work.

Authbound was among the partners that presented demos as part of the initiative, coordinated by Findynet, CSC and Haidion.

A Smooth Transition from the Job Offer to Settling in Finland

Moving to Finland for work involves several crucial steps such as employee onboarding, residence permit procedures, population registration, taxation and opening a bank account. At present, these processes often require individuals to provide the same information to multiple organisations.

Authbound’s immigration demo illustrates how digital identity wallets and verified credentials could help connect these steps into a smoother journey.

The demo follows the typical steps that an international employee goes through, from receiving a job offer through interactions with immigration authorities, population registration, the Tax Administration, municipal services and a bank.

At each stage, the relevant organisation requests only the credentials it needs. New credentials can then be issued to the employee’s wallet to be used in all the subsequent interactions. This prevents the employee from having to submit the same information repeatedly.

The demo highlights how wallet-based credentials could help different services work collaboratively while allowing individuals to share relevant information without exposing their entire identity profile.

Collaboration is the Key to Better Digital Services

The immigration pilot addresses a challenge that extends beyond any single organisation. Cooperation between employers, public authorities, municipalities, banks and technology providers is important to make the immigration process smoother for employees.

The initiative explored practical solutions to improve the process for employees arriving from outside the EU and EEA as the ultimate goal is to make the transition into Finnish working life easier.

The results presented at Sitra also provided an opportunity to discuss the benefits of the proposed solutions and the next steps needed to advance the work.

As Europe moves towards wider adoption of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet), initiatives like this offer an opportunity to explore how digital credentials could support real services and everyday interactions.

At Authbound, we are working to make wallet-based identity verification and credential exchange practical for organisations across different sectors.
